Alianza Coachella Valley and the Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities launched today a new Land Use Alignment Project Dashboard, an online tool that maps and tracks major local development and infrastructure projects across the Coachella and Imperial valleys. The dashboard allows the general public and policymakers to explore a database of proposed projects, or projects currently underway by local and county governments in the realms of infrastructure, agriculture, green spaces, and air quality. The purpose is to see where coordinated, collaborative support and coalitions might work together to advance these projects and secure support to uplift the region.

“Too often, projects happen in isolation without the full picture of how they fit into broader regional goals,” said Silvia Paz, Executive Director of Alianza Coachella Valley. “This dashboard brings transparency and coordination to the process, helping our communities and local governments move forward together. It’s about making it easier for the public to see the projects that their local leaders are proposing to help us strengthen our region’s infrastructure, agriculture, green spaces, and air quality.”

Developed in collaboration with researchers from the University of Southern California, the tool draws from data provided by participating jurisdictions including Imperial and Riverside counties and the cities of Brawley, Calipatria, Coachella, El Centro, and Westmorland. It highlights where shared priorities—such as housing, clean energy, transportation, and environmental resilience—intersect, offering a roadmap for strategic partnerships that strengthen the region’s economic and climate future.

“The Salton Sea Region stands at a critical juncture – a chance to become the center of a major lithium boom but suffering from infrastructure incapable of supporting economic development after decades of underinvestment and environmental degradation,” said California State Senator Steve Padilla (D-San Diego). “As the state begins the work of establishing the Salton Sea Conservancy, a shared vision that I was proud to have signed into law last year, it is vital that we work collaboratively across all levels of government and with organizations like Alianza, who are invaluable partners as we adopt a regional focus to these rehabilitation efforts, improving conditions in the region and opening the doors to further investment. This report is the result of those extensive research efforts and important conversations with the public and other vital stakeholders and can serve as a road map that will help guide the region to transformational economic development.”

By surfacing opportunities for alignment, the dashboard will help local governments, agencies, and community partners coordinate investments, pursue joint funding applications, and advance projects that create long-term, community-driven impact.
