A Community-Led Campaign to

Build Thriving Salton Sea Communities

Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities

Thriving Environment + Thriving Health = A Thriving Economy

The Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities is focused on improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for residents in the Coachella Valley and Imperial Valley. Drawing from our deep and diverse roots in the region, Alianza Coachella Valley, with our partners Lideres Campesinas, Loma Linda University, the Sierra Club, and Coachella Valley Parents, convene stakeholders and organize community voices to uplift the needs of our region and accelerate solutions. We lead a coalition of mission-aligned residents, nonprofits, researchers, and civic leaders committed to creating the conditions that make it possible to have a more vibrant and prosperous Salton Sea region. popup

We are working to build thriving Salton Sea Communities through…

Salton Sea communities thrive when we have supportive natural and built environments. We are introducing multi-benefit infrastructure that is responsive to community needs and demonstrates an innovative approach to addressing climate issues facing our region.

Salton Sea communities thrive when we address poor health outcomes. We are conducting community science to produce publicly available data and inform solutions to the challenges of the receding Salton Sea and improve health outcomes for residents.

Salton Sea communities thrive when we unleash and align our shared economic power. The Imperial, Eastern Coachella, and Palo Verde Valleys face many of the same societal challenges. We are working to ensure our regional economies are connected, creating the conditions for the region to be more successful in attracting public and private investments that benefit all of us.

As a member of the East Coachella community, I have experienced the adversities of the Salton Sea and the air quality around our communities. This has affected my health, and that is why the campaign and environmental justice projects we are working on with Alianza Coachella Valley to improve the environment, health, and well-being of our areas are important. I feel proud to be part of this fight.

The health of our desert environment is directly tied to the health of our community - protecting both is important for families now and generations to come

Working with Alianza as a scientist and community partner is inspiring. Through the years I witnessed young local scientists explore the Salton Sea, grasp its scientific importance, and become empowered to address its challenges. This unique ecosystem holds valuable lessons about our changing climate, but also presents urgent issues that local youth are now equipped to tackle. It's amazing to see the impact knowledgeable community scientists can have on policy. By providing the right mix of mentorship, direction, and resources, Alianza effectively empowers these youth towards solutions with wide ranging impact.

This campaign is for the future of our children and for them to have a healthier and more organic environment, a fresh place where we can breathe healthier and for our overall health to improve. A community where there is an environment of change so that our health improves.

The work that Alianza is conducting at the Salton Sea is helping spread community awareness of the severity of the environmental crisis while helping residents build a more personal connection with their home.
