The Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities is focused on improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for residents in Eastern Coachella Valley and Imperial County. We are working to advance this vision by advocating for additional resources, supporting better data collection and understanding through community science, and building a stronger inclusive regional economy.

We can and must do better for our Salton Sea communities, especially as there is growing interest in Lithium extraction and production without proper attention being paid to the impact on local communities. As these conversations gain momentum, it is absolutely critical that the community is at the table, setting the terms, and helping drive an agenda that centers those who live in the Salton Sea area and who will be most impacted by the decisions being made.

It is also critical to address the intersectionality of the environment, public health, and the regional economy at the Salton Sea. Each of these areas on its own cannot be improved without the others. Our campaign aims to ensure that projects around the Salton Sea aren’t completed in silos, but rather holistically address the environment, public health, and the economy so that this vibrant area can thrive.

There are several efforts underway addressing the many challenges facing the Salton Sea communities. The Campaign works with partners and proximate stakeholders throughout Eastern Riverside County and Imperial County to align on shared priorities and grow our impact through collective organizing.

Facilitated by Alianza Coachella Valley, with support from our partners Loma Linda University, the Sierra Club, Coachella Valley Parents, and Lideres Campesinas, the Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities is moved by a coalition of nonprofits, elected officials, advocates, and residents working to improve and strengthen our communities.
